He has held several academic positions:
- Secretary General of the International Academy of Constitutional Law (1988 to 1998)
- Rector of the University of Tunis of Sciences, Techniques and Medicine (August 1997 to December 2000).
- Member of the Council of the United Nations University from 2001 to 2007 and Vice-Rector of that university from 2006 to 2007
- He was a professor of international law between 2005 and 2007 at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia and contributed to the creation of the new Faculty of Law at that university.
He has been a visiting professor at several foreign universities including: Lyon III, Rennes, Toulouse, Montpellier, Paris I, Bordeaux, Aix-Marseille III, Sceaux, and Angers in France; Rome, Perugia, and Padua in Italy; Barcelona and Huelva in Spain; and Athens, Greece.
He is an active member of several associations and NGOs: the Association for International Studies, the Tunisian Association of Constitutional Law, the Tunisian Association for the United Nations, and the French Society for International Law.
