Dr. Ekouevi is a physician epidemiologist and Professor of Public Health. He holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Bordeaux (2004), followed by a habilitation to supervise research (HDR) in 2012. Since 2016, he has served as Full Professor and Head of the Department of Public Health at the University of Lomé in Togo. In 2017, he was also appointed Director of the Centre for Training and Research in Public Health at the same institution.
Deeply engaged in health crisis management, Professor Ekouevi served as Chair of the Scientific Council for the national COVID-19 response in Togo from 2021 to 2023. He plays a key role in health ethics oversight as a member of Togo’s National Bioethics and Health Research Committee and as Chair of the Ethics Committee at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Lomé.
Internationally, he co-chairs the Coordinated Action in Public Health (AC46) of the French National Agency for Research on HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis. His research focuses primarily on the epidemiology of sexually transmitted infections among key populations, including sex workers and men who have sex with men. Professor Ekouevi is also actively involved in operational research on HIV programs in resource-limited settings, with a strong emphasis on strengthening health systems and informing policy.
His contributions to science are widely recognized, with more than 250 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
